Ok weather is shaping up this weekend might be a possible for a river run.
Couple of ideas.
1 put in at Fort Snelling run to Hasting lock and back. Find a sandy spot for an sandwich.
2 put in a Wacota bridge (spelling) 494 where it goes over the Mississipp, run up the Kinnnni and Back.
3 Just play on the St. Croix all day
I was thinking that Saturday would be a good day 7-16-11 any Ideas just post them.
Alex do not put Orange fever back in Minnetonka quite yet.
-
Hey Jeff when I hooked up the CVX18 yesterday the wife asked why I was bringing it home. I told her I needed to do some work to it. ;) She said your not leaving me next weekend w/3 kids while you go out boating!.....LOL I guess I'll just have to behave all week and get into her good graces. I'm sure I'll be up for something on Saturday. My first choice would be putting in at the Wakota and running south. That's a nice stretch. No thanks on the St. Croix. Too busy and rough
Hope you had a good time in Bayfield last weekend although it is a lot more fun with a boat!
-
I'm still a maybe ...
Depend how things go this week.
-
I will be boating in Voyageurs.
Fort Snelling is closed as the MN government as no idea what they are doing.
but.....if you still want to go that route, Watergate Marina is just north of Fort Snelling and they have a real nice ramp w/dock in a no-wake zone. Not sure on price to launch but worth looking into. We stoped there for a tinkle break once. http://www.watergatemarina.net/ (http://www.watergatemarina.net/)
Have fun!
-
Ok
Looks like the best bet is to put in at the Wakota bridge and head south.
Shore lunch somewhere on the way, or go into Prescott for lunch?
Jeff
-
I might have to ride with you Jeff ...
-
That will be OK
It just might be you and I
Hopefully Kip will get a kitchen pass for the day.
Should we say meet at 10:00 am hit the water by 10:30
-
I might have to ride with you Jeff ...
Gregg, Do I need to have neighbor Mike run across the street and slap you around to get you to get that boat out of the garage???
-
I might be able to go with my son Paul. I suggest that we go just to the dam at Hastings and turn around. In the past, the no wake zone around Harriet Island is both shady and sandy and great for lunch. Actually, there is alot of sandy beaches between South Saint Paul and Hastings. We'll stop when we get hungry.

Jason
Mike would have to "Slap up" Carol and the cabinet guy ... Not me !
Thing are winding down and I might be able to shuffle stuff around and get boat out ... Maybe ...
We haven't had a kitchen in three weeks ... Try not useing your kitchen for two days and you'll see what I mean !
We could go to the boat bar in down town St. Paul ... Pretty good food ...
-
Hey Jeff, I got my "Hall Pass". Let's put in at the Wakota Bridge. I'm up for either a shore lunch or stopping someplace, either sounds great.
Starting out in the morning is perfect as I'd like to be off the river by 3:00 or so as me & the bride have have "Date Night" in the evening.
David - Hopefully you and anyone else can make it. I think 3 boats makes it officially a "party".
-
Boat is out of the corner of the garage !
First time the wife has been mad at me in 35 years ...
LOL ...
Hope it starts ...
-
Git "R" Done Gregg!
-
With my competitive spirit and always having to be first at everything, I will be handing out propellers to both Kip and Jeff on Saturday before the river run - the box containing the propeller says something like for use on houseboats, 9" pitch. Gregg, you do not get a prop.

As far as food goes.... Try River Heights Marina In IGH. Call to make sure they have dock parking first though.
http://www.mississippipub.com/ (http://www.mississippipub.com/)
If not there, I know Willies Hidden Harbor in St. Paul Park does have free dock parking. Place is not much to look at but they do have good food. We stoped in there on our river trip about a month ago.

If you make it past the lock and dam, Muddy Water's in Prescott is by far your best option!
Wish I could join you guys!
-
We will meet under the Wakota bridge and leave to head south at 10:00am
We"ll go as far down as the the lock and dam turn around head back stop for lunch and go north to St Paul as time will allow.
So pack a shore lunch and stop when hungry, Dave P will be leading the way as kKip and I will be handicaped with Daves new props.
Looks like Jeff,Kip,Dave P.,Gregg? and possible a friend of mine Adam with his Conroy. Anybody else Ross, Jim,Brian (get the freeze plug fixed yet?)anybody

Sounds like a plan Jeff!
-
OK ...
I will put in at Lions Levee and head north to meet you guys before 10:00.
With a lunch for the beach.
I have a rebuilt prop I can try so I don't feel left out ...
-
I will also be launching at Lions Levee Park in St. Paul Park. Will try to coordinate it with Greggs maiden voyage of the year - but he did get out alot of times last year.
Will also bring the GPS to record max speeds for Kip and Jeff.
David
-
It sounds like a blast, but.... maybe next time.
For sure I'd like to make that run.
I need some more hardware to run my new prop and I borrowed one of my tanks to Jason so I'd be down to 2 and am sure I'd need all 3.
Maybe we could do one of these in the fall? Leaves changing etc.

Gregg/David - I'll call Jeff and we'll probably just launch at Lions Levee Park as well. Never been there but from the pictures I remember seeing, looks like a better place to put in.
-
Pretty easy for us to get to Kip ...
Looks like we'll be getting wet though ...

The rain into the morning appeared to cancel the river run, but the forcast predicted only a 10 percent possibility of rain, so we decided to make a run for it. Group consisted of Kip, Jeff, Gregg, Alex, and David and his two boys Philip and Paul. We launched at the flooded St. Paul Park Lions Levee boat ramp and proceed South to the Hastings dam, turned around and headed North through downtown St. Paul and had lunch near Harriet Island on a sandy beach. MY GPS recorded the trip as 50 miles and my max speed with the 21" Ballistic Stainless steel as 48.1 MPH at 5,000 RPM with three in the boat, gas, and cooler. I used about 12 gallons of gas for about 4 MPG. Fair amount of debris on the swift flowing river. Light boat traffic. Great trip, great weather, great guys, and great boats.
My son Philip recorded the trip on his cell phone. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=205541664352044612393.0004a8352cdb40acaf49b&ie=UTF8&z=12

I remembered to check MPG and got about 5 MPG.
-
So Gregg are you still blaming me for the 200rpm loss because of my fat a--?
-
Gregg, you don't need boat insurance, just prop insurance.
-
Last time I took a chunck out of the prop it vibrated like crazy ...
Maybe I could just keep runnin' it ...
Maybe not ...
I gotta get a new stearing cable also, it'll be 40 years old next year ...
-
What some people won't do to get the "Hard Luck Trophy".
-
Looks like you guys had a good time.
Gregg, I certainly would think it would vibrate, but I guess most of it is there.
So how does Jeff's thru hull sound?
-
not near as loud as i though it would be !
-
Great pics guys, thanks for sharing! Looks like a good time was had by all, (except Gregg's prop of course!) Didn't mean to make fun, you sure have some rotten luck with props buddy.
-
Hey great time yesterday and it was good seeing everyone. It was nice that the weather cooperated for us. Here's some of my pitures.

Great pictures and thanks again to Jeff for the ride and letting me drive his 18! 65+mph on the water is a trip!
Jeff's thru hull sounds perfect in my opinion - not obnoxious, but loud enough to get your attention 8)
It was great seeing/meeting all the guys...hopefully next time I'll actually bring my boat :'(
-
Looks like a great time guys! Thanks for posting all the pictures.
