Title: Mercury 1150 Outboard Motor
Post by: bellj on June 21, 2019, 02:34:29 PM
I have had a Used Mercury 1150 Outboard Motor for sale that I purchased years ago as a project motor when I had plans to put it on my old GT-150, because that one only has a Mercury 70 on it.

Yes, I know that a 115 HP was larger than the maximum allowed, but it also was the same base as the 90 HP which was allowed, so I thought there might be some potential options.

Here's the rub - I purchased it as reported to have low compression in one cylinder. I was hoping that it was just a reed valve, although that's not my usual luck, but took a chance anyway, and all these years later I still haven't had time take it apart to see what's actually wrong.

This spring I figured I'd just put it up for sale for someone else's project, but of course all I'm getting for interest are parts hunters that want to pay half of what I typically see just the lower unit by itself typically sell for.

I'm getting down to where I'm either going to have to take the time to take it apart - time I really don't have at the moment - or explore other options. So let me ask - I know there's a wealth of talent on this site because this is what you guys do. Would any of you have any interest in purchasing this motor before I take it apart? If you do, tell me what you think a fair price would be. I also have a guy that wants my old GT-150, but that's still buried without a good way to get it out yet, so that's on hold - although I do have a 20 foot red Switzer with a Mercury 175 (yes, that's not a Glastron, although rare in it's own right and I REALLY hate the thought of selling that one, but it was bought as another project never gotten to with supposedly a similar low compression on one cylinder and never any time to work on), as well my dad's old Pipestone (also somewhat rare) that I need to see if it will sell too - let me know if any of those interest any of you.

I only have ads out for the Mercury 1150 engine - there are pictures on a website I have in my basement at www.starlitebargains.com (http://www.starlitebargains.com), although I was going to pressure wash the mud off and take new pictures long ago and haven't even gotten that done yet. It's been a long time since I've met any of you, but I know you're the best in the business and assume somebody else's project could maybe use these items, so let me know if there's any interest. Thanks!

Greg....if you’re thinking of parting it out, I would be interested in the hydraulic lift brackets.... mine are broken....

Chris .. This is Jim's ad / motor.
I just posted what was listed on his link.

I checked his profile .. and he hasn't logged into forum since last June.
You should be able to find what you need on eBay.
If not we have a used motor parts place in MN. that might have it.

Thanks Greg! I’ve been checking on eBay, but no joy there... I will check with the place you suggested tomorrow.
Thanks for the info!
