so...I have been unable to find a good used Volvo Penta aq130c head and I have decided to buy a Volvo B20 auto head and modify it to suit my needs. This could take awhile.

so here is what I found on the east coast to work with . It is a 69-74 Volvo 4 cyl F head from a car. Mine is a 73 F head from the aq Volvo 130c. My head has a open-sea/fresh water cooling system and the car is a closed cooling system, to make this work I need to remove a cooling tube, move a oil sensor and plug up a few holes and drill one new one and remove a tube from the thermostat area. I will take this to a auto speed shop tomorrow to get it started. All in all the head is in great shape. The old head was in good shape also except for the crack in the deck between the two middle cylinders. These heads seem to be pretty rare and overheating problems crack the boat head and make them pricey when you can find them. The car head -not so much

here's the old one from the boat. I also need to change out the studs from the small ones on the car head to these larger ones in order to hang the dual carbs and the exhaust.

Looks like progress, hope the machining mods work out and you get the craft back on the water this spring. Others folks with Volvo's are certain to want the info, so thanks for posting.

so here is the finished product. this shows the studs moved to this "new" head and the thermo housing put on and used as a guide for the tube below it and to match up the holes

this is one of the plugs that had to be put in after other equipment was moved or removed

tis is the original head and the flat on the underside. On the car head there are 2 holes which had to be plugged, this flat area hangs over the front
in the boat and has a small generator there in front but on the car head the holes line up to a water pump and ( I think ) a copper tube out to the back of the engine

the sensor was removed from the back and plugged and the old one put in the front the tube from the side was also added, this was the most expensive part as it was pressed in and tapered at the bottom so it had to be exact, the shop that did this builds NASCAR heads so I was not afraid but the small tube could be easily damaged, the shop that did this also had the capability to build it from scratch if it was botched. All in all it cost around $400. but much of this could be done at home if you have the time and tools and will. I had it done because my work is running non stop overtime and the temp in my unheated garage is still in the 20s and 30s this last week. We will get a warm up soon and I will put this back on and start adding all the motor parts I have accumulated this winter

this is the object that I refer to as the " tube " , it sits above the deck in front and the brass thermo cover sits over it. this is on the original head. Both of these heads were F heads from around the same year or the same year ( 1973 ) these head were made from 69-74 the car head cost me $150.
