Rathbun Checklists ...
« on: May 28, 2012, 01:31:23 PM »
Alright, I'm going to try and think of everything ... if there's something I've overlooked, please, please tell me!

Everyone for themselves ...

Bring a sharp knife (we're still trying for steak on Friday, by Wednesday I'll have placed the order and can let you know).  Bring your own drinks for Friday dinner
Bring your own drinks.
Saturday breakfast is on your own.
Saturday dinner is on your own.  The Resort Restaurant is not bad, and they serve big portions (menu:http://honeycreekresort.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/dinnermenufeb_final.pdf) if you want a chance to hang out on their patio with your boat at their slip.

Volunteers for community goods ...

Napkins/Paper Towels
Plastic Silverware
Paper Plates
Plastic Cups
Trash Bags

Don't forget your water, gatorade, soft drinks, adult beverages.  I'll get a price on bags of ice maybe I can bring out a bunch of fresh bags.

Dan - Not sure if this needs to be said or not...but...b/c of the Emerald Ash Borer quarantine...you should not bring firewood to the campground.

You should buy it locally.

Thanks, Doran ... yes, they do want local wood at the campsites.  $4.99/bundle - tons available at the Centerville HyVee store.  I believe the gas station off the corner in Moravia has some as well, same price.

Is gas available on the lake?  Maybe I asked this do you need a state park permit?

I know the Buck Creek Marina will have fuel.  I don't know the price.
No permit necessary.  If you wish to launch from a ramp that is outside the state park, the Corps of Engineers charges $3.00 for a one day ramp permit.

Oh yes ... charcoal.  Bring charcoal - unless you like cooking over wood, then pick some up on your way in.

Guys - thanks for the invites to the Run on Rathbun.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to make this event.  As I said in a different thread, June 1 is my daughter's 20 birthday and she can't get time off work to go to Iowa.  Instead she said she wants me to take the GT-150 down to Manhattan, KS and spend the weekend on the lake there.

You all have a great time, as I'm sure we will, and I'll try to make the next one.

Dave,

Celebrate family!  We'll catch you at Red Wing in August.

On a group note ... steaks are on for Friday night!  It's gonna be a cook-your-own thing ... I don't want to be responsible for over-/under-cooking

We'll bring more plates and silverware.  I think I even have a dozen or so extra steak knives in my camping kit that we can borrow out.

I made it out on the lake at my Sister-in-Laws cabin last weekend, leg worked fine so we are in for this weekend.  I might need some help launching the boat as I can't submerge my knee yet and climbing on a trailer is a little wobbly. I'll be the guy limping around all weekend.

DON'T FORGET BUG SPRAY !!!

I know you MN guys know all about them, but we moved up here from San Antonio & didn't deal with bugs quite like this.  Spiders and scorpions, sure, maybe even a few scary snakes, but damn these ticks give me the shivers.

Avon "Skin so Soft" repels tics and bugs for some reason.  (The insect and tic population is exploding here this summer, due to the mild winter!)

I am so envious, I'm gonna make it up there for one of the meets one of these days, I swear!  Hope y'all have a great time this weekend, looking forward to the pics and reports.   ;)

I'm doing ok, limping around and I'm back to work.  last night I ripped out all of the interior of the 184 to clean the carpets and investigate what looked to be an old mouse nest comming out from under my bow. It takes alot more time to get in and out of a boat with 1 leg but I'm getting through it.

I'm ahead of schedual on my therapy per Travis my PT guy. I do get tired out easier but that is to be expected.

Shawn gave me a bag of goodies to hand out when I get down there, floating key chains, a couple of stickers and some beer koosies. He left for Superior fishing last night...Now that I think about it he did leave his CVX unprotected (from me) in the garage, I could just hook up to that for the weekend ;D

That would be hilarious! Maybe leave your 184 in it's place and see if he notices right away!

Seriously, glad to hear the recovery is going well. Just holler this weekend if you need anything and we'll all gladly help!

Just in case ... somebody bring a prop wrench.  I don't have one & weather I can get my motor hung and started by Friday Evening, I'd like to be able to swap props without having to pay the local shop.
