Mercruiser 140 upper seal leak
« on: June 16, 2021, 04:32:26 PM »
So I changed my impeller for the season and left the drive up. Oil started dripping from the upper shift rod, the one that connects to the arm and goes through the helmet down to the lower drive. I hadn't filled the drive with oil yet so I cleaned it off and put oil in the drive. The it starts dripping from the lower weep hole. All points to the upper seal. Ill pull the drive tonight and Im sure ill find oil in the bellows. Anyone else experience this?

Looks like I'm in for having someone reseal the drive.

The old oil was clean and showed no signs of water contamination either, and no metal on the lower plug magnet. Hopefully I can get away with just a reseal. Everyone knows how old boats can snowball...

Got the upper resealed, and they assembled the upper and lower together for me. Pressure tested and its all good. Now for a lake test next weekend!
