Boating with baby?
« on: March 27, 2021, 10:54:33 AM »
I am wondering does anybody have any tips or tricks for boating with small babies?  Pictures would be fun also :-)

I thought Eric and Inez idea was awesome!

Given some time to think about it, that really is a tough question.   Almost along the same lines as how to properly raise children.   Personally, I'd hold off boating for little ones til they are maybe a year old and proper flotation device can be fitted.  Now maybe a calm private lake combined with a large stable boat changes that dynamic?   Really a tough parenting call, but just like driving on the roads, you have to figure all the others that will be out there as well sharing the road/water.   In the 60's, I came home as a newborn on mom's lap in the station wagon, I couldn't bring my children home without an infant car seat properly secured.  I'd be interested to hear what other parents think of this issue since my youngest turns 23 this summer, I'm a bit removed from the baby issues till grandchildren appear.

Do it! Get them started young. We exposed our boys to as much as we could as young as we could. They went for their first boat ride around 4mo. Not sure I’d go the route of a car carrier though. A life jacket is a must for sure. You can get infant life jackets (thanks Jim and Kelly!). It’s not hard to avoid jarring bumps in the boat and actually the infant life jackets hold their heads pretty steady anyway. We used both the cv23 and cv16 with them.

I was hoping you’d chime In because I remember you having your boys out fairly early. Couldn’t remember the specifics. Lol. Thanks!

Our neighbor came over and asked if we had any infant life jackets they could borrow last summer… Apparently I have quite a few, LOL here, and at the cabin
