My wifes phone the power / lock button is bad as well. I have an older 3s but no newer ones to get rid of.

checked icracked.com
You might be able to get a new motherboard there.
I just replaced the broken screen on Courtney's phone yesterday - bought the full digitizer display at icracked (second purchase, quality product)
**edit**
I looked at their site, didn't see any pc boards. They've got the cameras, and speakers, and charging ports, and screw sets, and wifi antennas, and … well, most everything but the pc board itself. Figures.

Couple years ago I bought an iPhone 3gs off CL. Power button did not work. I went to the apple store and they gave me a brand new 3GS for free. Go in the store, see what apple will do for you.

I doubt Apple's going to do anything unfortunately...its been opened...and I think they'll wash their hands of it.

I have heard of people getting exchanges like that at the apple store, but it has never worked for me...
It's 6 months out of warranty and I did not pop for the apple care.
I will prob get something from CL, for the short term I made an adapter drum an old debt card and some packing tape, and put my sim card in my old 3S. But it's painfully slow :/
