I just discovered this forum; never knew it existed but was excited to find it!

This is my 1986 Glastron X-16; my father purchased it new and I bought it from him three years later.  I used it a lot throughout the 90's and into the early 2000s, but put it up in my third stall garage for storage in 2008.   This spring I got it out, cleaned it off, had the engine/carb/hoses/etc. cleaned, rebuilt, tweaked, etc. as needed and it purrs just like it always has.

I really need to do something about the trailer; it's got a fair bit of rust which in and of itself seems like an easy thing to deal with but I'm not crazy about renting a slip for the time I'll need to sandblast / prime / paint the trailer.   But that's a problem for another day :-)

Great story on your Glastron as many of us started the same way.

I see the boat is registered in Minnesota where are you located hope you can find us on the river some day..

I'm in Maplewood and have usually been on White Bear Lake and Lake Gervais for the most part.   I've been on the river a bunch as well; growing up, before this one, my dad had a V-176 with a Johnson 135 on it; I think I spent most summer weekends as a kid near Lake Pepin - Camp Lacupolis and camping on the beaches on dunes and sandbars across the river from Reeds Landing.   Where on the river does everyone here hang out?

Nice boat! My dad also has a 1986 X16D w/140 MerCruiser. Bought it brand new. Same two tone blue interior as yours with a silver metalflake gel. That hull throws a really nice flat wake for slalom water skiing.

We are in north St. Paul, We launch at hubs in hasting, hangout at the big sand pile by the Nauti hawg some times, or the kinni, Like to camp at a bunch of places but our fave is the island on the west side of the st Croix just south of the Arcola bridge.

As far as fixing the trailer goes it’s pretty easy. move the boat back just a little bit using a floor jack and a wood block, put a couple of jackstands at the Stern, then you can jack it up on the Keel and move the trailer out about a foot or so at a tim before having to move the Jack.

You might want to switch to bunks on your trailer as long as your redoing it.

As far as the trailer repaint, you have a smaller trailer than I do so will be a little easier and cheaper than my project. I was going to sandblast and epoxy paint but the cost was looking at over $1K. So am now working on sanding rusty areas, coating those areas with a rust inhibitor, then top coating with Rustoleum. I'll see how it holds up but with how much road time and the fact it's kept indoors when not in use I think it should hold up quite well. Just waiting for some cooler weather now to paint it.

Cool - thanks for the welcomes and especially for the links to repainting the trailer; very helpful!

I was thinking getting the boat off the trailer was going to be the difficult part but it looks like it's relatively straightforward.   Question on switching trailer bunks - if the rollers roll freely and aren't cracked/etc. is there much point to replacing them?  What would be a warning sign / wear sign for these to look for?

I would put the rollers on the last 2" of the hull right in front of the transom so that the transom carries some of the weight and the rollers do not make an impression, or valley in the hull. My rollers are not on the pad.

Over time rollers will leave dimples (divets) in hull, the pressure points of small area contacting hull.
Bunks spread load over larger area.
Not a big deal, as most likely your hull has them already.

Also they don't leave black skid marks on hull …
