27 gallon originally.  I assume you are redoing the gel correct?  The reason i ask is the early Intimidators had the fuel tank sideways ahead of the dash with the fuel filler further port then the later versions that actually had the front to back tanks.  When i redid mine i changed the tank orientation but didn't move the filler hole in the deck.  Due to this the filler hose isn't a straight shot.  It is more an "s" and a pain to get in place.

By best spot... I mean, to buy one..  I have an old metal tank from a past project but its only about 18 gallons.   I need the bigger one..  Also, didn’t realize there are 2 different styles....My timi is a 1980.  I’m not sure if I’m going to gel, paint or have it wrapped yet. I’m hoping gel, but it all depends on the money flow..

There’s a guy in Faribault that is always advertising boat parts he has a bunch of tanks i asked him about it a couple months ago, I don’t have contact information.

Mine is also an 80. I would suggest changing the orientation if nothing else for the storage you gain.  You can pile a bunch of camping gear up there if needed.  You pretty much have to build a support box for it though. If not you will loose stuff behind the tank.  The box i built was a longer version of the one in my cvx18. Secondary benefit with the box was added support to the deck in case you want to walk up there.

This is what I replaced my intimidator tank with. Same size as my original 1984
