Spun engine coupler.
« on: August 15, 2025, 07:42:44 PM »
Sorry so long.
It?s been awhile since I?ve posted anything, but it was requested I make a post about my coupler. I think I?ve been living on borrowed time with my coupler. When testing props in the past, I?d get heavy on the throttle out of the hole and have what I thought was a cavitating prop. At this years meet, Nancy and I were headed to downtown St. Paul from TI on Thursday, we had stopped in Hastings to say hello to some of the Missouri guys up for the meet, they rent a house on the Mississippi, when we left, I was getting into the throttle harder than normal and I thought I had cavitated the prop, off the throttle, checked trim and pushed the throttle again, same thing only this time we smelled burning rubber. One more try with the same results so back to the dock. I talked to Brian Hanff and decided to load my Intimidator on his Sprint trailer, I was able to power load it, at the marina next to where they were staying and trailered it back to TI and loaded it on my trailer. We were able to ride with Tim for the weekend, thank you Tim!  We arrived home on Monday, I started to take the motor out on Tuesday, and finished pulling it on Wednesday. I called a local marine parts store and ordered a new coupler, I was also informed that Mercruiser would no longer be making the coupler for my engine, Vortec block. I also have an oil leak I?ll address at the same time and replace the oil pan gasket and 1 piece rear main seal.

Everything looked good inside the engine/oil pan. My new gasket is on, next is pickup my coupler and install it with the flywheel.

The new coupler, Mercury, has arrived and doesn?t look like the old one at all.  I?m wondering if it was a Sierra?

No markings on the old one, the Mercruiser one says it?s made in the USA.

The one I can remember putting on looked like your old one. Also no idea who made it.
