Inspection Port

Anyone install an inspection port on their boat? Thinking about doing it on my gt150 for access to the bilge. Could blow air in to it in storage and just have a better idea of what?s going on down there. I don?t like the fact I have no access to this area.

After he rebuilt his Timmi, Frank put access plates to vent his bilge after boating.

I was going to install 2 of these 4" covers - one on either side of the stringer in my CV for access and venting where the water tends to get trapped ahead of the bilge/drain well. I wound up putting drain holes instead after i decided to use composite for the rebuild and moisture wasn't a concern anymore. I cant see a situation where additional inspection and venting would be a bad thing with these boats, especially with the original construction

Thanks, it is kind of baffling that these are sealed up so tight. Where would you recommend putting one? I don't want to weaken the floor.

Thoughts on putting the inspection port under one of the seat cushions? Or doing one on each side under a seat? It would prevent it from being stepped on and would hopefully not weaken the floor

Does anyone have a picture of the hull split with the floor removed? Looking for something that shows the stringer and foam so I can decide on the placement of one or two inspection ports. Right now, I?m thinking under a seat on each side.

Thanks! This is a big help. I want to find a place where I can have good air flow and avoid cutting in to a stringer.

i say under the seat is a good location if you have the clearance, accessible but not in the way how i feel like it would be in the open space  - careful cutting in, as these do not have much space under the floor before the hull

Thanks. I have 2 4? inspections ports ordered. I think under the rear seats will give me good access. I really want to avoid hitting one of those 3 cross members though. Anyone have an idea if those run underneath the rear seats? Also if that stringer is directly below the seat? Here is a picture of where I?m thinking on each side. I think this would prevent people from stepping on a potentially weak spot in the floor created by the holes.

Also, I got a great deal on the carpet replacement from the guy who rigged my outboard. He cut in to the floor to take a look in the bilge and thought things seemed okay. I wish I would have had the foresight to just have him cut the two inspection ports with the carpet up.

use caution, that spot under the seat is only a few inches from the edge of the floor, and the space between the floor and the hull is about 1 1/2 inches

Hmmm. To the left and right of the ski locker under the bow might be a decent location too. I?d just like to get some good air flow going when out of the water. My kids have one of those bounce house inflators that I thought about hooking up to a hose and directing it in to the port.

Picture of what I ended up doing. Great air flow under the deck with the 4 inch vent fans in the inspection ports. I just leave them going all the time when not in use.
