Hey boys/gals, I joined this forum a while ago to read up on things and do some research, but this is officlally my first post! My name is Rob and I run the youtube channel ADDvanced; I grew up on the Madison chain of lakes, spent my childhood going to tunnel hull races around the country, developed a career in product design working for Milwaukee Tool, Harley, and tons of other Wisconsin companies, and I spent the past decade or so as an industrial designer at Mercury Marine in FDL; design lead for many of Mercury Racing's products during this time period, as well as lead designer on controls/rigging, tillers, and the Avator program. You can see my work here, and yes, I am always looking for new clients:
www.gruvdesign.comANYWAY, back to the boat stuff; I have restored quite a few boats; my first was a 50s El Rae where I learned the ropes, and then tackled a
78 Sleekcraft Aristocrat ModVP/tunnel, later a
Sleekcraft SST tunnel where I did a full composite rebuild of the hull using coosa and nidacore but still havne't finished rigging this one; the interior quotes of $5k for vinyl seating put the brakes on that one for now. I picked up a cheap
$500 CeeBee Avenger with a 150 XR2, restored a
50s hydroplane with a Lightning engine/quicksilver hydro mid/gearcase, and last summer I picked up a
FREE Chris Craft Stinger 222 with OMC V8.
With so many projects in the works, I really didn't want another boat at all, but a buddy sent me a FB marketplace listing for a FREE GT150, the pics were bad, but it wasn't too far away, so I went to look at it. Here are my adventures so far, hope you dig it!
Current Questions I'm looking for help with:
1. Has anyone done more of a GT160 interior in a GT150? Not a huge fan of rear facing seats, would prefer a rear bench. I found the plans for the original seats
here 2. Does anybody know of a location in the midwest to acquire more Coosa/Nidacore? Last time I had it shipped from Florida and the shipping costs were more than the materials.
3. This is more engine specific, but as you'll see in the video I now own 3 90hp Mercury Tower of Powers; I'm looking for more information on these engines but it's sorta scattered, does anybody have a definitive resource? I searched a lot on the Scream & Fly forums, but haven't found a ton of real solid info yet.
Anyway, happy to join the Glastron Gang! Hope to have this in the water by July 4th, super tight deadline but that's my goal!
