Gas Tank
« on: March 31, 2015, 08:24:30 PM »
New to this boat world....I have a 1979 Glastron Carlson CVX20 and cannot figure out how to open the gas tank cap to re-fuel.  Any help out there?

Should have a slot to turn it out CCW.  There are "keys" I have seen at marina fuel docks, but I just use a big screwdriver.

Thank you very much.  I tried a large screwdriver but I was afraid I would break it, but still couldn't get it open.  The boat was sitting for a long period of time and maybe it is corroded.

It's made of stainless steel so shouldn't be corroding. My next move would be to buy a key. See if you can get it off with that.

If you're short on the key, put a screwdriver on either side, grab down low and turn CCW with both hands....

Welcome to the forum Randy ...
Please post some pictures of your CVX.
I use a small piece of metal I found in the junk drawer in our kitchen, might be for a curtain rod holder or something ?
You could just remove and replace the whole filler for about $30 to $40 ...

Randy,  welcome to the forum.

Provide an email address or send me a private message - I will make a copy of my cvx20 manual for you, and provide other helpful info that I have.  Mine is a 77, but all is the same.

Randy welcome to the site and nice boat! The CVX20 is an iconic design and one of the more sought after Carlsons.

A good place to start researching your boat is by looking through the marketing literature posted online. It gives you hull specifications and you can see what options, colors, etc., where offered on your boat as well as what years it was made. Don't treat everything as gospel but they are for the most part pretty accurate. Click on the "Carlson Factory Images" bar/button.

You can't buy parts or things like owners manuals from Glastron anymore. Many parts are obtained from donor boats although some things like your windscreen can be bought from companies that make reproductions. There is a resource list on the site that you can look through to see what your options are.

There is also the Classic Glastron Owners Association national site that you can use as a resource.

Hope that helps.

Kip

I see Scott already got you taken care of with a manual!

That is not the manual I have - the one that I have is devoted to the 460 Packajet and is everything you need to know about the engine / drive system.  I am out of town for work till tonight, but could provide the info when I return tonight.
I attached a photo of the cover (from my phone), not sure if it will show up.
