I generally look at boats storage conditions as a means to determine what level of project it's likely to be. If i see a boat outside, no cover, leaves, and torn up interior, you can be nearly assured all the wood is rotten. Engines and drives should be demonstrated. Not running or in parts, i consider as requiring rebuild and price accordingly. How much of the restoration work you can complete yourself is another consideration. For instance, if you acquire this craft, and need somone to replace floor, transom, interior, and then rebuild the engine and drive will cost in excess of $5k. If you did all the work yourself you could save plenty. Examples of finely restored, or unmolested and well cared for originals do exist at reasonable prices. Going this route can save you money and stress in the long run. Right now is the worst time of season to find great deals on boats, especially projects. Not having the ability to inspect the craft, but from what has been described, I would say $1500.00 is a bit much, especially if the head is off.
