David,
The boat was purchased new from Waterloo Boat & Motor (no longer in business), Waterloo, IA. We acquired it in 1980 from the original owner after my dad purchased a lake home on the Gull Lake Chain in 1979. The purchase included all the original documentation, Glastron and Mercruiser owners manuals, and I still have most of the repair receipts that I've collected over the years. During the first few years the boat saw a lot of water activities. That, combined with the fact that the boat sat on a non-canopy Shorestation for the first couple of years, resulted in a deteriorated floor in the rear, which I replaced and re-glassed in the early '80s. That is why you see a center carpet seam cover in some of the photos. Not all of the carpet was replaced. The floor is still very solid but I ensure that it does not remain wet for very long. Also, sometime during the mid '80s the raw water pump impeller went bad resulting in a cracked cylinder wall. The engine was then sleeved and completely overhauled at that time. Come to find out that those Chevy/Mexican blocks were not of the best quailty castings and are extremely sensitive to abrupt temp changes. I don't believe that the temp gauge ever exceeded 190, but it evidently does not take much. I keep a very close watch on it now. The engine starts and runs great and it's been a number of years since the plugs and even the breaker points have been changed. As I told Gregg, there is some fading on the transom where the sun reflects off the water. The seat bases need to be recovered and there are a few other minor items that need TLC. That pretty much explains it all.
In regard to selling it: My daughter just purchased a lake home not far from us and she has much more garage space than she needs - hence I have a place to store and work on the CV - so I'm in no hurry to get rid of it. However, at my age, the accumulation and maintenance of more 'stuff' is becoming a much bigger issue than it once was. Know this. If I do decide to sell, this group will be the first to know about it, and I would feel really good knowing that it would be well cared for by whoever purchased it. If someone is really interested, I can always entertain offers.
Jason,
In regard to your visit to my area in June: I don't know if it will happen but how cool would that be to see two identical CV16SS's travelling together on the water. Talk about an attention getter.
