So every year a pair of Swallows will make a nest under my boat lift; this year is as normal. If you look at the picture one Swallow is perched on my "refrigerator" of a motor, while the other is on a nest in the far upper corner beam. I don't mind. When I go near the boat they will squawk at me and dive at me a bit but we kind of tolerate each other. At the beginning of the season as they build their nest I will sit with them for a time and have a discussion about not pooping on my boat. It is actually a pretty lively discussion at times.

As I move closer to the nest to make my point known they squawk at me, and admittedly, I squawk back advising them on my pooping requirement. A good debate no doubt; but I definitely don't win all the time.
