Windshield source
« on: February 09, 2016, 07:12:40 PM »
I need a windshield for a 1986 CVX 17.  UPD in Florida says they can make one. Does anybody know of any other sources?

This is a metric series boat.  UPD tells me that the series does not share windshields.  I don't understand why the factory would do this.

Thank you,

Randy

Welcome!

Did you look through here: http://forum.cgoamn.com/index.php?topic=2901.msg33052#msg33052

Do you still have the original for them to copy?

The metric series is probably not interchangeable because the different models are wider between each other. Then the CVX series have a similar windshield but the metric series has more of a bow shape in the top deck of the hull.

The CVX17 is an awesome boat. Post some pictures of yours sometime!

If they can make one...isn't that good?  Or is that a typo?

Thank you for the replies.  I have the original but am missing a small piece. I am interested in other options because the freight to send mine to Florida and get a new one back is quite high.

Randy.

Since you have the original, call around your area to shops that work with plexi-glass and see if they have an oven large enough to make a new one that matches your original. If you can't find anyone local just get the one from UPD as you know they will do it right......That's worth the extra cost sometimes.

Welcome to the forum Randy !
Where are you located ?
As long as you have most of your windshield intact, some one should be able to make a replacement locally.
Do a "Google" search in you area for plastic, plexi, lexan, custom plastic, etc.
Make a few phone call to company's listed ...

Let us know what happens ....

I'm located in central North Dakota. I am unaware of anybody locally that can reproduce the windshield. Another post on this site lists some sources but I am uneasy about using them without a reference from somebody.

Look at the Fargo cl ads for boats would the one in Pelican Rapids work?

I know it has been sitting there for a loooong time he wants $600 make him a offer.

You would end up with a boat & trailer, make sure the windshield is in good shape.

just a though.

How central?  I've have family all over central N.D. (Valley City & Steele mostly, but some in Bismarck, Underwood & Riverdale/Coleharbor)...then the other side of the family is from Milnor & Lisbon.

I am located in Minot.  I fixed up a trailer to fit the boat in Pelican Rapids and drove to look at it with plans to purchase. The windshield was in poor shape. It would not even work for a mold to make a new one. The interior is shot.  The floor is soft which probably require extensive structural repairs. I decided not to buy it.

Thank you for your time,

Randy

I know a place here in Okc called Eatonquade could do it and may be a closer place to send it to. They are on the e-net.

That's too bad. Would have been nice if the owner could have sent you some pictures before hand. Keep us updated as to what happens with your windshield. Best of luck to you.
