Vintage mercruiser outdrive

Pulled this off the latest project I have and will not be putting it back on. Should be worth something to someone let me know if you can use it or l will be putting it on Craig's list if I don't hear from anyone in the club. Came off the 74 cv-18 I have. Should be able to put it on anything from the early 60s-70s

This drive will not fit anything newer then 1966 and I believe it's probably early 60's, maybe even the first stern drive unit Mercury produced. Unless someone is into vintage early Mercruiser I doubt anyone will want it.

Wow, I knew it was old put didn't think that old.. Early 60s.. Still like to know how this ended up on a 74 boat.. Talked to one  guy in Byron m.n. Who had a old collection of boats and he seamed to think that glastron use to take old left over outdrives and install them.   Looks like this one will head to the scrapper..

I doubt Glastron installed it, they usually used what was currently available at the time and don't think they would have used outdated gear. I'll have to check with my parts people as to the vintage of the drive but suspect it's so old parts will no longer be available for it. I've never seen one like this myself that didn't have thru-prop exhaust. Perhaps a previous owner wanted to repower the boat and grabbed the only thing he could find from an abandoned donor boat.

I did a lot of digging on it. Best I can find is a 68-69 Mercruiser ii 1.78 drive. Looks really interesting.

     I know it might be a hassle, but in the interest of helping other boating hobbyists, would it be possible to put it on Ebay?   Might not be worth much to Gastron folks, but there is probably some other hobbyist restoring some XXXXX brand that would love to have it.   Given its age and application, probably hard to find?

I've thought about eBay,but this thing is heavy and would cost crazy money to ship. I do know of a place in Rice? m.n. On hwy.10 Who rebuilds old wood boats and have seen some old fiberglass boats there also. I'll try to find out about him and contact. I would hate to scrap it if someone is looking for parts if nothing else.

That's an active business?  I drive by that a few times a year, and I always it was abandoned...

I think so. He works by himself and only does like one or two boats a year. And he moved to the other side of 10 when they redid the highway, down the road a ways.

John Monahan in little falls , building on east side of hwy 10, restores old boats.  He restored my 1956 Dunphy Imperial Musky to show quality, it won the Minnetonka Antique and classic show Outboard class in 2014.  Does great work, fair price, and does both vintage glass and wood.  He would be 1 person who would know if there is a home for it.  I will send a pm with his number.

It appears that it used to be white. Didnt white Merc outboards go away in the late 50's, early 60's? I would think I/O's would follow suit but I dont think there were I/O's in the 50's??

Yes, it appears to have been white at one time. Paint on it is thick.. Called the guy in little falls on it the other day but have not heard back from him yet.
