86 CVX-18 paint inquiry
« on: September 26, 2025, 07:45:51 PM »
I am getting ready to have my trailer repainted to the factory color.  I checked my local commercial paint supply company hoping they could figure it out, but no such luck.  Anyone have a resource or recommendation that can get me going?

I think any good paint shop can color match.

Right before that boat was in the Minneapolis boat show, I can't remember what year, I had some sort of oil based paint mixed up to touch up the tongue. From memory I think it was a pretty good match at the time, maybe not anymore. If it's close enough for you I might be able to find some sort of paint code because I might have gotten that paint at Sherwin Williams and I think they keep pretty good records of your purchases. Do you want the original steel wheels?

Looking at those pictures reminded me that I also touched up the cover of the trailer jack. I also recognize a few of those people. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Gregg.

most paint suppliers can scan and match fairly well, i did that for the GT150 and the bal harbor.

when i did the Bal Harbor i used LKQ in Fridley, PPG omni is the lower cost line there, used that on the flame ranger as well.
for the GT150 i used PPG shop line from single source in Roseville
i was pleased with the match both times.

I realized after I posted the question I recently had some hull work done and was given a can of the left over gel coat they used to match. I guess my question for the group is whether or not the hull color of my specific boat is the same color as the trailer?  It looks to be close but my trailer is so chalky it is hard to find an area to compare.  I also dont want to try and match the boat if that is not what it was originally.
